Bar and Bat Mitzvah
Bar and Bat Mitzvah are truly special times in the life of a family. In Judaism, these ceremonies (B’nei Mitzvah is the plural) are events of major religious significance. To help students and parents benefit most fully from these rites of passage, I stress the spiritual nature of the occasion. I have developed an individualized approach to Bar and Bat Mitzvah that encourages the growth of your child as a member of the Jewish community and as a person. It is always my hope to meld family needs with traditional practices.
B’nei Mitzvah preparation can be a powerful journey of exploration, learning, transformation, and prayer for your child and your family. The rituals of Bar and Bat Mitzvah are the only part of the Jewish life-cycle that require teachers and a process of formal education. The year of preparation is full of study, learning, mitzvot, and decision-making. I work closely with you during this time, allowing you to give ample thought to the important choices while being able to step back and appreciate the experience along the way.
I encourage families to make their ceremonies as personal and meaningful as possible. Together we can select readings and tailor a service to a particular theme (social justice, animal welfare, ecology, vegetarianism, etc.) In addition, special projects during the year of preparation become meaningful ways of teaching children by example the values of Jewish tradition.
